Kochi: In an effort to align Kerala’s education system with global standards and future-ready practices, Jain University hosted a high-level discussion as part of Summit of Future 2026. The breakfast chat brought together education experts, government representatives, and senior professionals from leading IT firms to examine emerging technologies, employability skills, and the evolving challenges facing the state’s education sector.

Former Calicut University Vice Chancellor Dr Abdul Salam said the most pressing challenge before education today is skill development. He observed that skill-building often remains confined to theory and can become effective only through structured, hands-on training. Such training, he added, should begin at the school level itself.

Highlighting unemployment as a key concern, K-DISC Executive Director Riyas P.M. said sustained efforts are underway to address the issue. He stressed the need to build confidence among young people and underlined that knowledge and skills should not be treated as separate domains. He also emphasised the importance of continuous training for teachers alongside students.

K-DISC Executive Director and TCS Innovation Labs Head Robin Tomy said Kerala possesses immense talent and can achieve significant outcomes with the right guidance. He called for development models that factor in the state’s social realities and challenges.

IBM Programme Director Madhuri D. Madhavan Pillai, KPMG Senior HR Associate Director Jeswin Jose, EY GDS Senior Manager Vinod V.S., former Bharata Mata College Principal Dr Johnson, Jain University Director of New Initiatives Tom M. Joseph, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr J. Latha, and Future Kerala Mission Chairman Venu Rajamani also took part in the discussion.
