Kochi: Journalist Sreekantan Nair, Managing Director of Twentyfour and Flowers TV, said withholding uncomfortable truths from the public is more disturbing than the backlash that follows speaking them. He was addressing the session “Masters of the Mic: Decades of News and Views” at the Summit of Future held at Jain Deemed-to-be University, Kochi.
Nair said journalism loses its purpose if facts are softened to avoid criticism. While audiences may resist harsh realities, he stressed that failing to inform people honestly is a greater injustice.
Participating in the session, Johnny Lukose, Director of Manorama News, observed that many channels are increasingly driven by “breaking news” culture. He emphasized that journalism must move beyond speed and deliver depth, urging the public to verify information before sharing it on social media.
The speakers reflected on decades of change in media presentation and discussed how evolving formats shape public trust. The session was moderated by journalist and researcher Anjana George.
