Kochi: Education must go beyond awarding degrees and become a force that transforms lives, said Orwell Lionel, founder of the Indian Institute of Commerce-Lakshya, at the “Profit with Purpose: Education in Focus” panel at the Summit of Future organized by Jain University, Kochi.
Lionel noted that today’s youth are moving away from conventional career tracks toward practical, employment-oriented education. In developing countries, he said, education gains value when it leads to economic security and improved quality of life. He stressed that strong curricula and long-term investment in teachers and learning infrastructure matter more than large capital investments.
Education entrepreneur Vivek Sinha, CEO of Emversity, shared his journey from rural Bihar to building a major skill-development platform. He predicted strong job growth in healthcare, hospitality and infrastructure, adding that AI will support, not replace, human workers in these sectors.
The panel concluded that education carries deep social responsibility. Unlike other industries, it cannot afford reckless experimentation, as it directly shapes human lives. The session was moderated by Akshay Muralidharan.
