Kochi: AICC General Secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal said that raising uncomfortable truths in today’s political climate often invites hostility and branding as anti-national. He was speaking at a discussion on “Service Beyond Power in Politics” at the Summit of Future 2026 organized by Jain University.
Venugopal alleged that opposition voices are increasingly targeted and said questioning those in power has become difficult in the current environment. He referred to past attacks on opposition leaders and criticized what he described as a culture of political intimidation.
He also defended the role of student politics, arguing that discouraging campus political engagement due to isolated conflicts is misguided. Comparing it to “cutting off a head to cure a headache,” he said student politics plays a vital role in nurturing democratic awareness and leadership.
The session focused on the responsibilities of political participation beyond electoral power and the importance of protecting democratic debate.
