Kochi: Agriculture has evolved from a traditional livelihood into a technology-driven science powered by drones, sensors and automation, said leading entomologist Dr. Madhu Subramanian at the Summit of Future 2026 organized by Jain University.

He noted that channeling the startup ambitions of young entrepreneurs into agriculture could trigger major transformation, adding that strong public–private partnerships are essential to accelerate innovation in the sector.

Principal Scientist Dr. P. Sethuraman Sivakumar observed that startup penetration in agriculture remains low compared to the IT sector. He emphasized that emerging tools such as robotics and drone technologies must be adopted to address long-standing agricultural challenges. Calling it a shared responsibility, he said “Agriculture 4.0” is not only about supporting farmers but about ensuring collective food security and sustainability. The session was moderated by Dr. G. Nagendra Prabhu.
