Kochi: A candid conversation between Malayali entrepreneur Joseph Sunny and Tom Joseph, Director of New Initiatives, Jain University, opened the Summit of Future with the inspiring backstory of the global creator platform Buy Me a Coffee.
Founded by two brothers in Silicon Valley seven years ago and now valued at over $40 million, the platform operates in more than 120 countries. Speaking publicly about the journey for the first time, Joseph Sunny said the idea emerged from repeatedly seeing the phrase “buy me a coffee” in creator communities. The brothers transformed that simple expression into a tool that helps creators earn income and gain visibility.
He revealed that the start-up faced multiple investor rejections, including five from Y Combinator, before persistence paid off. The session encouraged young entrepreneurs to take risks, reach out boldly, and plan for future challenges while building sustainable businesses.
