Kochi: Data is no longer just about numbers, storage or complex instructions. It is now about intent, purpose and autonomy, said Anant Srivastava, Senior Staff Developer Advocate at MongoDB, during his keynote address titled *The Future of Data* at the Summit of the Future.
Addressing the audience, Srivastava spoke about a major shift in how humans interact with technology. Earlier, developers had to explain every step to machines. Today, that relationship has changed. “We have moved from ‘how to do’ to ‘what to do’,” he said, highlighting how modern systems can decide the process once the goal is clearly defined.
He explained that Large Language Models, including tools like ChatGPT, are powering this change. These models do not think like humans, but by learning from vast volumes of data, they build a meaningful understanding of language, context and the world around them.
Tracing the journey from basic data storage to predictive analytics and now to autonomous systems, Srivastava emphasised that data has become the central force behind innovation. As systems grow more self-reliant, he concluded, the future will depend on how well we collect, manage and trust the data that drives intelligence.
