Kochi: In a world obsessed with numbers, likes and viral moments, actor Ramesh Pisharody offered a refreshingly simple idea of happiness at the Summit of the Future organised by Jain University in Kochi — real joy lies in being able to sit peacefully with oneself.
Speaking at the YOLO session, Pisharody pointed out how the digital age has quietly redefined happiness as something to be counted. “People today measure happiness through social media views and likes. But just like jealousy, happiness has no measuring scale,” he said, adding, “If we are normal, we are happy.”
Taking a sharp dig at the flood of online motivational videos, he said breaking out of the comfort zone is often preached without any real sense of direction. When passion and ability fail to move together, he warned, life only becomes more stressful instead of fulfilling.
Pisharody also spoke about slowing down the mind and listening to the body. He explained how physical discomfort, whether through fasting or ritual practices, can sometimes lead to mental calmness. Peace, he noted, may feel boring in a hyper-stimulated world, but learning to enjoy that boredom is a form of freedom.
Happiness, he concluded, should never be about convincing others or collecting certificates of approval. “When life gives you a moment, laugh openly,” he urged. The session was moderated by journalist Jayamohan.
