KOCHI: “There are still so many people in Kerala today who live without revealing their true identity because they are afraid of society,” stated Bigg Boss star and influencer Riyas Salim. Speaking at the ‘Unboxed – LGBTQIA+’ session during the ‘Summit of the Future’ at Jain University, Riyas highlighted the pressure to conform. “Society has created certain rules—that men must walk a certain way, shouldn’t wear makeup, and shouldn’t cry. When I go out with makeup on, many people look at me as if I am something strange. To them, I have only one thing to say: I am not living for others. Let me live the way I like,” he declared.

The event also featured fellow Bigg Boss contestant Noora, who spoke about the personal cost of seeking acceptance. “It was after many legal battles and crises that I was finally able to live together with my partner,” she said. Noora noted that while the public was initially hesitant, the support following her time on television was “beyond expectations.” Her partner, Adila, shared the positive impact of their visibility: “It brings great joy to hear that many lesbian couples are now coming forward and that families have started accepting their children.” The session, which focused on the need for social change, was moderated by journalist and researcher Anjana George.
