In a recent address at the ‘Speak For Future’ session during the Jain University Summit of Future in Kochi, Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly A.N. Shamseer offered a nuanced perspective on the political engagement of today’s youth. He challenged the common narrative that the younger generation has become entirely apolitical, suggesting instead that while their interest in traditional party politics may have shifted, they remain active participants in the broader democratic process. He emphasized that youth organizations carry the vital responsibility of politicizing the next generation, reminding the audience that it is politics that fundamentally shaped the nation.

Shamseer urged young people to look past the digital world of social media reels to understand and act upon real-life issues. He noted that for politics to be sustainable and meaningful, it must move beyond public relations strategies and focus on honest, sincere interventions in the problems facing the general public. This call to action extended to the realm of education, where he encouraged a shift in mindset. Rather than viewing a degree as a final destination or a mere gateway to employment, he advocated for the adoption of lifelong learning as a practical way of life.

Addressing criticisms regarding the state’s development, the Speaker dismissed the claim that nothing progresses in Kerala as a false interpretation of reality. He pointed to the presence and investment of institutions like Jain University as evidence of the state’s relevance and potential in the educational sector. Furthermore, Shamseer spoke on the importance of preserving national identity, voicing concerns over efforts to unify language, culture, and elections at the expense of diversity. He concluded by calling on every individual to protect the Constitution and the pluralistic fabric of the country against such homogenization.
